The BIG Play

The BIG Play launches in Drumchapel

3D has developed an exciting new initiative called 'The BIG Play’ and were delighted to receive a grant of £9,727 from the Big Lottery Communities and Families Fund for this initiative.  Over 300 people attended ‘The BIG Play’ launch on Friday 17th April at the Drumchapel Community Centre.  ‘The BIG Play’ is an initiative developed by 3D Drumchapel and made possible with funding from Inspiring Scotland’s Go2Play Fund and the BIG Lottery Communities and Families Fund.  The ‘BIG Play’ hopes to encourage families in Drumchapel to play with their children within the home and Community.

The launch day had plenty of fun activities for families including face painting, a bouncy castle and a mini zoo.  Many local services also had stalls to let families know of what is going on in the local community.  This event was opened by Bill Kidd MSP and Cllr Malcolm Balfour with a little help from Mickey and Minnie.

Sharon Colvin, Project Manager at 3D Drumchapel, said,“We are delighted to be able to launch this exciting new initiative in Drumchapel. We are hoping the BIG Play will create a buzz in Drumchapel that will see families taking up the BIG Play challenge and hosting their own play sessions. Families will be encouraged to spend time together having fun and enjoying each other’s company. The aim is that playing together becomes part of everyday life.”

The BIG Play Programme includes 4 BIG family Play Days which will be held in Drumchapel throughout the year.  BIG Play’s Little Play will create opportunities for families to host their own play dates with friends and families, who will then be invited to ‘Play it Forward’ and host their own.  The BIG Play Challenge encourages families to complete as many play activities from a list of 50 age-appropriate activities as they can and play rewards are given when a number of set activities have been completed.  There is also an on-line space, The BIG Playzone, for families to download resources and share ideas.
