3D Drumchapel were delighted to welcome Andrea McLean from ‘Loose Women’ for a visit on Monday 2nd March as part of Comic Relief Red Nose Day. 3D has received £10,000 in funding from Comic Relief. Andrea visited our SPACE (Space for Parents and Carers Entirely) group facilitated by Marion Lindsay, Senior Children & Family Worker, and Carole Shields, one of our volunteers.
SPACE offers peer support to families who have children with additional support needs and the group is a mix of shared peer discussions and practical sessions. SPACE provides practical and emotional support to parents and helps create a support network for families within their local community. Andrea joined the SPACE group for an informal discussion to learn more about the support the group offers and some of the challenges they face as parents/ carers.
In an article for ‘The Sunday Mail’ Andrea said,
“It has been wonderful to see the benefits of the funding first-hand. Once you are a mum, you join a united club and we all need help and support in various ways.
Meeting the ladies was enjoyable because we are all the same. We might live in different parts of the country and have different circumstances but we want the best for our kids.”

Marion Lindsay said of SPACE,
“This is a smashing group. It’s a place where mothers can come and just be themselves. There can be lots of issues the Mums are dealing with and they don’t want to do that in front of their children. Our hope is when they come here they can just be themselves. There are no expectations. The mothers give each other an incredible amount of support. They laugh and cry with one another. And they give an incredible amount of good advice.”
